Planned Giving

Fight Hunger & Nourish Your Community … For Years to Come

Secure your legacy. Strengthen The Food Group.

WHAT IS A LEGACY GIFT?

A legacy gift is a planned gift that designates a beneficiary to receive a portion of your assets after you pass away whether that is through your retirement plan, IRA account, Will, trust, brokerage account, annuity, or insurance policy.  A legacy gift is a powerful way to fight hunger and nourish our community…for years to come.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A LEGACY GIFT?
A legacy gift supports your future, protects your loved ones and assets, and makes a significant impact on the charitable causes you care about – all while helping you realize meaningful financial benefits.

WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE MAKING PLANNED GIFTS?
Planned gifts (most commonly a donation made in your will or trust) cost nothing today and allow you to make an incredible impact on causes you care about, which is why so many people choose to make them.

HOW WILL MY LEGACY GIFT FIGHT HUNGER?
Your planned legacy gift to The Food Group will provide nourishing and culturally connected food for people across our community today and create change for tomorrow, so everyone can access the food they need to be healthy and thrive. Your gift ensures the future of The Food Group.

Bequest

Designate The Food Group as a beneficiary of your asset by will, trust, or beneficiary designation form

  • Include a bequest to The Food Group in your will or revocable trust.
  • Designate The Food Group as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or pension).
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

If you are 70 ½ or older, a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA is a way to support The Food Group this year.

  • Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to The Food Group.
  • Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to The Food Group.

Note: Your qualified charitable distribution does not qualify for a charitable deduction but may help satisfy a required minimum distribution (RMD).

Beneficiary Designation Gift

A beneficiary designation gift is an easy way to make a gift to The Food Group. You can designate us as a beneficiary of your retirement, investment or bank account, or your life insurance policy.

  • To make your gift contact the person who helps you with your account or insurance policy such as your broker, banker, or insurance agent.
  • Ask them to send you a new beneficiary designation form.
  • Return the completed form to your broker, banker or agent.
Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

Fund a donor advised fund and make charitable gift recommendations during your lifetime. Upon your passing, your children can carry on your legacy of giving.

  • Set up a donor advised fund and make a one-time or ongoing irrevocable gift of cash or stock to your fund – while realizing a charitable incomes tax deduction in the year of your gift.
  • The assets in your donor advised fund grow tax-free.
  • Make recommendations on charitable gifts to be made from your fund.

AND MORE...

Additional planned gifts such as charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, appreciated real estate, mineral interests, etc. are additional options. Consult your financial or legal advisor to discuss options that may help you reach your goals.

Planning your legacy gift to The Food Group can be as simple as:
  • Leaving a bequest to The Food Group in your personal Will or trust. Here is sample legal language: [“I ________ give to The Food Group Minnesota, 8501 54th Avenue North, New Hope, MN, 55428 EIN #41-1246504, _____ percent of my estate, or the sum of   _____   dollars, or the remainder of my estate.”]
  • Making The Food Group a beneficiary of a brokerage account, IRA account, 401(k), insurance policy, or annuity. You can simply add “The Food Group Minnesota” as a beneficiary to your account or designate The Food Group as a beneficiary of your non-probate asset.
