Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz visited the Minneapolis Farmers Market on Sunday, Aug. 4, in support of farmers and hunger relief organizations, including The Food Group.
He proclaimed Aug. 4-10 as Minnesota Farmers Market Week, purchased produce with Market Bucks, and donated bags of vegetables to The Food Group.
The Food Group works with Minneapolis Farmers Market vendors to accept donations of surplus produce and then distribute them to our food shelf agency partners.
Market Bucks match SNAP/EBT spending dollar-for-dollar (up to $10) at participating farmers markets across Minnesota. Big River Farms, a program of The Food Group, accepts Market Bucks at Kingfield Farmers Market and at the pop-up market at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater.
The Food Group representatives had a chance to speak to the governor about our hunger relief work, as well as our efforts advocating for programs like Market Bucks and SNAP/EBT. We also discussed the current administration’s proposed changes at the federal level that are threatening Minnesotans who utilize SNAP. (Learn more and submit comments here.)
Thank you, Gov. Walz!
