Winifred Sylvah grew up gardening with her grandmother in Sierra Leon, West Africa. She valued healthy vegetables and eating. So when she came to America, she found opportunities to grow again in her backyard, in community gardens, and now at Big River Farms.
Winifred runs Oniwede Farm with the help of her son Irwin as her farm partner, as well as other family members. She grows a variety of vegetables, including traditional African vegetables like peppers, okra, bitter balls, amaranth greens, jute leaves, sweet potato vines, and other greens.
